News from The Old Place |
"Beauty will save the world". These are the words of Prince Myshkin in Fyodor Dostoyevsky's great novel The Idiot. The phrase stuck in my head as I gazed up at the mesmeric site of a soft light gently illuminating the great gothic arches and white altar at the heart of the ancient La Basilique de Vézelay, the Benedictine Abbey and UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled on a small hill deep in French wine country. It is a place that must be experienced for oneself, allowing the gentle call of this sacred site to move one's spirit.
I had visited Vézelay on the invitation of Worthian Christopher Kelly StB'78, one of their experienced guides, to explore the possibility of a Worth Community Pilgrimage trip there. Situated just a couple of hours south east of Paris, the opportunity to encounter this place of deep spiritual beauity together is a wonderful prospect.
The Worth Community are therefore delighted to announce a trip there between 26th-30th October 2025. Supported by Worth School, Worth Society, Worth Abbey Pilgrims & Worth Parish, the trip is open to all members of the Worth Community and we would particular like to encourage alumni to join us.
Christopher will guide us through the Abbey itself, with its beautiful architecture and symbolic use of light, and will also organise visits to other notable sites of interest in the area.
The price of the ticket is £130 and includes:
Participants will make their own transport and accommodation arrangement, although we will be happy to help with recommendations.
You can book your place here now.
