James Longman B'05 reporting from Moscow

Reporting from the Russian capital on the impact of the invasion for ABC News

James Longman B'05 has become an award-winning journalist having started out in Syria where he spent six months reporting for British newspapers, spending time in rebel-held areas in the lead-up to the war. Having studied Arabic at university in London he is a fluent speaker of the language and, in 2012, was hired by the BBC for his specialism in the region.

Whilst with the BBC James took a particular interest in mental health and reported on his own family's history for the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme. In 2016 he was nominated for the Young Talent of the Year at the Royal Television Society Awards.

James joined ABC News in 2017 and has subsequently travelled all over the world reporting on breaking news, as well as on special investigations, including the series Virus Hunters for National Geographic during the pandemic. In recent years James has won the David Bloom Award from the Radio and Television Correspondents Association and a Deadline Club Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for his work on the persecution of the LGBT community in Chechnya.

As ABC News Foreign Correspondent, James is currently reporting on a daily basis from Moscow on the effect the War on Ukraine is having on Russia and its people. We wish him well!
