To say the Coronavirus pandemic has brought about unprecedented times is an understatement; with a 40% decline in internships and placements and the recruitment market in crisis, students are set to be the hardest hit by the job market disruption. With so much uncertainty and a return to 'normality' seemingly a long way off, graduates and students are naturally feeling more than a little bit abandoned. But all hope is not lost!
Arguably, a lot of the issues graduates face right now are simply exacerbated versions of problems that were already there. The days when a university degree was a guarantee of lifelong employment are long behind us, especially for students of the arts. The average undergraduate degree won’t touch on many of the skills actually sought after by employers: expertise software like Excel and Adobe Photoshop, SEO and UX design, as well as more nebulous assets like good leadership and lateral thinking. Students are expected to fill gaps in their education with side jobs, extra curricular clubs, and private projects.
This is where C
lass Of 2020 comes in: an e-learning platform available to members of Gen Z (16-25yr olds) in the UK education system. In short, a not-for-profit community project whose only incentive is the rewarding results we provide to graduates, students and their communities. Our team of dedicated volunteers has been working hard building a platform to bridge the gap between education and work - to take materials that companies use to train their employees and make them available to people looking for work. Sure, Masterclass might give you directing lessons from Martin Scorcese, but we’ll give you business development tips from Microsoft. And we’ll give you them for free! So whether you’re looking to start a new career, enhance your skills, connect with like-minded graduates, businesses and industries or simply improve your confidence, we’ve got you covered.
Here at Class of 2020 our mission is to help the new generation of workers adapt and evolve to meet these changing demands within the job market; visit our website to find out more and sign up today.
